Legal Counsel I-Land Use/Environmental/Municipal

This Legal Counsel I position is expected to provide legal analysis and counsel on a variety of legal matters including; intergovernmental agreement negotiations; land use and development regulations; environmental law; municipal law and policy matters. The Legal Counsel I classification is considered non-managerial professional, fully functional in all aspects of an industry/technical field. Positions at this level serve as a technical resource assisting in providing support and analysis to multiple functional areas. A Legal Counsel I works on moderately complex projects where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of variables using technical concepts competently and effectively.

 

District Court Judge

Western District of Washington

 The Judicial Selection Committee for the Western District of Washington is now accepting applications for the position of District Court Judge.  Please see the attached announcement and the application form.  The deadline for completing the application and providing the required information is January 4, 2021.

 

Municipal Court Judge

City of Spokane

 

The City of Spokane is seeking applicants to fill the Municipal Court seat vacated by Judge Tracy Staab, who won election to the Court of Appeals last month.

Review of Municipal Court judge applicants will begin on December 21 with the intent of filling the seat early next year. A full job description and application link are available on the City’s website.

Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction with statutory authority to adjudicate criminal misdemeanors, civil infractions, and limited civil matters. Appointments are made by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. This will be the first appointment of a Municipal Court judge since 2018 when Matthew Antush was selected to replace Judge Shelley Szambelan, who left her seat to be a Superior Court judge.

 

United States Courts for the Ninth Circuit

WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit invites applications from all qualified persons for the position of Federal Public Defender (FPD) for the Western District of Washington. This position will be available starting March 1, 2022.

The FPD Office is headquartered in Seattle, WA, and maintains a fully staffed branch office in Tacoma, WA. The FPD manages an annual budget of $12 million and an office of about 55 employees, which include attorneys, paralegals, investigators, and administrative personnel. The term of appointment is four years, renewable upon demonstration of highly satisfactory performance in office. The current authorized annual salary is $170,800. The Office of the Federal Public Defender provides federal criminal defense services to individuals unable to afford counsel. An applicant must satisfy the following conditions: (1) be admitted to practice before the highest court of at least one state; (2) be a member in good standing of every State Bar of which they are a member; (3) have a minimum of 5 years of criminal practice, preferably with significant federal criminal trial experience; (4) possess administrative expertise; (5) have a reputation for integrity; and (6) be committed to the representation of those unable to afford counsel.

A Local Screening Committee will review all applications and conduct interviews of the most qualified candidates. The screening committee will refer the most qualified candidates to the Ninth Circuit’s Standing Committee on Federal Public Defenders, who will refer the best qualified candidate to the Court of Appeals for selection and appointment.
