Legal Secretary - Helsell Fetterman

Helsell Fetterman LLP, a 130-year old law firm in downtown Seattle, is seeking a legal secretary to support our litigation practice group. Key aspect of this position are an ability to handle client intake, calendaring, creation of legal documents as directed by attorneys, and to file in all state and federal courts.

The right person will be very customer-service oriented, punctual, positive, focused, and responsible. This position is open as of July 10, 2020. Schedule is 37.5 hours per week, with occasional overtime. Compensation depends on experience and will generally be $35-45 per hour. Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, fully paid ORCA, 401(k). 

Tasks

  • File in all state and federal courts

  • General focus is to provide assistance with all non-billable work.

  • Greets public in person, by email, Kenect and on the telephone, provides general information, answers questions and directs individuals to appropriate party as necessary.

  • Client intake, including conflict checks and preparing file.

  • Handles all logistics around meetings, including depositions – scheduling people, conference rooms, and resources

  • Updates and monitors attorneys’ calendars in Outlook.

  • Updates attorneys’ Contact files in Outlook.

  • At attorney direction, creates and organizes legal documents and correspondence, briefs, contracts and court papers for one or more lawyers.

  • Makes copies of various documents as needed.

  • Familiar with processes associated with court or other government entity, as applicable to the type of practice(s) supported, including reviewing court rules and filing practices

  • Open, maintain and archive client matters

  • Process dictation from time to time

  • Performs additional tasks as requested to support the department.

  • Assists as requested in other areas of the firm.

Volunteer Lawyer Program Manager | Skagit Volunteer Lawyer Program 

The Skagit Volunteer Lawyer Program is a cooperative partnership between Community Action of Skagit County (Community Action) and the Skagit County Bar Association.  The Skagit Volunteer Lawyer Program (VLP) provides free, high quality, efficient and innovative civil legal assistance to low‐income people through the recruitment, training, mentoring, supervision, and support of volunteer lawyers.  The VLP relies on the participation of lawyers who volunteer their time to assist low‐income residents of Skagit County with their civil legal needs.  Pro bono services are provided through advice and brief service clinics, unbundled legal services, and full direct representation.
